PEER 2.0 – A Big Step Forward for Mobile EEG

PEER 2.0 takes Suva’s EEG research technology another big step forward with an application that is now more powerful and easier to use.

In 2017, Suva Technologies released PEER (Portable EEG ERP Researcher), the world’s first iOS application designed to allow the collection of research-grade EEG data with just an iPad/iPhone and a MUSE Headband.

PEER needs only an iPad/iPhone and a MUSE Headband to collect data

Since then, it has been used in major universities around the world, including the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, Harvard, the University of Bristol, and many others. Since its initial release, we have received fantastic feedback from our users. They loved what we had already built, but they also had many great ideas about new features and capacities that they wanted to see in future versions of PEER.

We’re pleased to be able to announce that PEER 2.0 is now complete, and it is packed with improvements that make it both more powerful and easier to use. Here are some of the most exciting new features:

Expansion Packs (In-App Purchases)

One of the things that many users wanted to see was a version of PEER that could be upgraded on a modular basis so that researchers could create a customized experience with extra analytical tools and research paradigms. Along with the release of PEER 2.0, we are also unveiling our first two in-app expansions, which are an on-board analyzer for P300 and N200 evoked potentials and a customizable gambling game that allows researchers to write their own user interface scripts.

Auditory Oddball/Go-No-Go

Another common user request was for auditory versions of the Oddball and Go-No-Go games. This feature is now built into the PEER 2.0 app. Instead of having subjects respond to differently colored circles, they can respond instead to tones of varying pitch.

Studies Menu

For PEER 2.0, we’ve built an entirely new “studies menu” that allows you have multiple customized studies stored on your device. Now, you don’t have to change the game settings every time you want to conduct a different kind of test. You simply go to the studies menu and either create a new study or use a previously saved one.

Lab Environment Upgrades

We’ve made several improvements to make it easier to use PEER in a laboratory setting. For example, we added support for a second screen, so that you can monitor live EEG data on a separate monitor while your subjects are using the iPad/iPhone. We’ve also added the capacity for PEER to select a specific MUSE Headband for interfacing, which is important if you are working in a busy lab in which multiple researchers are using PEER at the same time.

Preview Scenes

To help you visualize how changing settings will affect the user experience of your research games, PEER now shows you a live preview of how your current settings will appear in the game. This change greatly streamlines the setup process and reduces the need to launch the game to test settings.

A Broad Array of Improvements

PEER 2.0 also boasts many other new features and improvements from our original version. Please explore our full list of changes for more details, or contact us to learn more about how PEER 2.0 can help you with your research agenda.

PEER 2.0 is available for purchase on the Apple App Store now.
